Every state played a crucial role according to its strength, PM Narendra Modi said
Addressing the first physical meeting of NITI Aayog's Governing Council since the outbreak of Covid-19, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday said that cooperative federalism served as a force in helping India survive the pandemic. He highlighted the efforts of state governments in tackling the COVID-19 challenge.
"Every state played a crucial role according to its strength and contributed to India’s fight against COVID. This led to India emerging as an example for the developing nations to look up to as a global leader," he pointed out.
At the meeting, 23 Chief Ministers, three Lieutenant Governors, and two Administrators were present, in addition to several Union Ministers, including Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Home Minister Amit Shah.
The Prime Minister claimed that amid the Covid-19 crisis, India's cooperative federalism and federal structure emerged as a model for the rest of the globe. He remarked that India has given a powerful message to the poor nations of the world—that it is possible to overcome obstacles with tenacity despite resource restrictions.
PM Modi claimed that the state governments deserve the credit for this since they concentrated on delivering public services to the people at the local level via collaboration across political boundaries.
Crop diversification and achieving self-sufficiency in pulses, oilseeds, and other agri-commodities; National Education Policy (NEP) implementation in school education; NEP implementation in higher education; and urban governance were the four main agenda items covered by the Governing Council this year.
