The visit will add further momentum to the multifaceted partnership between Indian and Maldives
President of Maldives Ibrahim Mohamed Solih arrived in India on Monday afternoon on a four-day official visit at the invitation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The President and the Maldivian team were received by Union Minister of State Sanjeev Kumar Balyan and senior Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) officials upon their arrival at the Air Force Station in Palam, New Delhi.
Taking to Twitter, MEA Official Spokesperson Arindam Bagchi wrote, "A warm welcome to a close friend and maritime neighbour! President @ibusolih of Maldives arrives in New Delhi for an official visit. An opportunity to nurture the unwavering friendship between our two countries and lend further momentum to the multifaceted partnership."
A press release issued by the Maldives President's Office said President Solih’s visit to India denotes the close relationship between the two countries. India has been a vital partner in Maldives’ socioeconomic development. A number key projects initiated by the government have been completed as a result of this partnership, the release pointed out.
During the visit, President Solih will meet with President Droupadi Murmu in addition to holding talks with Prime Minister Modi. External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar will call on President Solih.
Apart from engagements with government officials, President Solih will also meet with an Indian business group in Delhi. He will also visit Mumbai, Maharashtra, and take part in business activities during this trip.
During this trip, a group of top government officials and business leaders from the Maldives are accompanying the president.
