6.4 tonnes of medical aid to Hambantota General Hospital is a part of ongoing relief measures taken by India.
India continues to send life-saving pharmaceuticals, medical equipment, and relief supplies to hospitals and individuals across Sri Lanka as part of its expanding aid to the debt-ridden country as it attempts to overcome its worst economic crisis.
The latest consignment was delivered to Hambantota General Hospital. Consul General of India at Hambantota, Sri Lanka, Dipin PR handed over 6.4 tons of drugs & essential medical supplies to the hospital on Tuesday.
In a tweet, the official Twitter account of the Indian Consulate General in Hambantota remarked, "#Indian Aid to #Hambantota General Hospital. Consul General @dipinprIFS handed over 6.4 tons of drugs & essential medical supplies to Hambantota General Hospital today."
Dr. Suranga Ubeysekara, Director of Hambantota General Hospital, expressed gratitude to India's government and people for their unwavering assistance in a time of crisis.
On Saturday, India had provided two truckloads of life-saving medicine and equipment to Jaffna Teaching Hospital (JTH) in Sri Lanka's Northern Province on Saturday
The day before, India's High Commissioner to Sri Lanka Gopal Baglay had presented the 1990 Suwa Seriya Ambulance Service with 3.3 tons of necessary medical supplies. This was part of the over SLR 370 mn medical aid delivered from India in the last two months.
Over the past weeks, India has also provided other essential items like rice, milk powder and kerosene.
On Monday, the Consulate General of India in Jaffna handed over relief material that will benefit close to 50,000 families in Kilinochchi and Vavuniya districts. Relief supplies have also been distributed to a large number of families in Mannar and Jaffna.
These are part of assistance from the government of Tamil Nadu, with 40,000 MT of rice and 500 MT of milk powder being distributed across Sri Lanka.
