PM Modi is undertaking visit to Japan to attend Quad Leaders’ Summit
Ahead of his two-day (May 23-24) visit to Tokyo to attend the second in-person Quad Leaders’ Summit, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday said the summit “will provide an opportunity for the leaders of the four Quad countries to review the progress of Quad initiatives.”
The Prime Minister also said the Quad leaders “will exchange views about developments in the Indo-Pacific region and global issues of mutual interest.”
On the sidelines of the Quad Leaders’ Summit, PM Modi will hold bilateral meetings with Japanese PM Fumio Kishida, US President Joe Biden and newly elected Australian PM Anthony Albanese.
In March 2022, Prime Minister Modi had held the 14th India-Japan Summit with the visiting Japanese PM Kishida. His visit to Japan will help the two countries in continuing the conversation that the two sides held during the India-Japan Summit.
“During my visit to Tokyo, I look forward to continuing our conversation further, with an aim to strengthen the India-Japan Special Strategic and Global Partnership,” the Prime Minister said.
Economic cooperation between India and Japan is an important aspect of our Special Strategic and Global Partnership.
“During the March Summit, PM Kishida and I had announced our intention to realize JPY 5 trillion in public and private investment and financing over the next five years from Japan to India,” PM Modi said.
With regard to his meeting with US President Biden, PM Modi said both sides will “discuss further consolidation of our multi-faceted bilateral relations with the USA. We will also continue our dialogue on regional developments and contemporary global issues.”
As for his bilateral meeting with newly-elected Australian PM Anthony Albanese, PM Modi said, “I look forward to a bilateral meeting with him during which the multifaceted cooperation between India and Australia under the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, and regional and global issues of mutual interest will be discussed.”
During his two-day visit, PM Modi will also meet Japanese business leaders with the goal of further strengthening economic linkages between two countries. Besides, he will have an interaction with the members of the Indian diaspora. Japan is a home to nearly 40,000 members of the Indian diaspora.
