President Ram Nath arrived in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines as a part of his two-nation visit.
President Ram Nath Kovind discussed deeper bilateral cooperation between
India and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines during his visit to the Caribbean nation on Thursday.
His two-day state visit is the first by an Indian President to the country. President Kovind had earlier visited Jamaica.
During a meeting with Governor-General Dame Susan Dougan and Prime Minister Ralph Gonsalves, President Kovind discussed ways to deepen bilateral cooperation in areas such as information technology, health, education, tourism, and culture, as well as in multilateral fora, the President's Secretariat said on Friday.
Later on, they witnessed the signing and exchange of an Agreement for the Exchange of Information and Assistance in Tax Collection, as well as an MoU for the Refurbishment of the Old Calder Community Centre.
Following that, President Kovind went to the Botanical Garden in Kingstown, where he planted an Indian White Sandalwood seedling and saw a cultural show blending Vincentian and Indian culture.
The President then spoke during a special session of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines' House Assembly on the theme "India and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines-Towards an Inclusive World Order."
According to the President's Secretariat, while addressing the assembly, he emphasised India’s motto, "Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas, and Sabka Prayas."
In the afternoon, the President spoke to the Indian community and Friends of India on Calder Road in Kingstown.
President Kovind said that the Indian Diaspora and Indians living in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines reflect India’s rich diversity, cultural heritage and traditions and India is proud of them and their achievements.
Following that, in the presence of Prime Minister Gonsalves, members of the Indian community, and other dignitaries, the President renamed Calder Road as "India Drive."
The President's final engagement of the day was a banquet at Government House given by the Governor-General of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines.
