During his five-day visit, the Chilean FM held Joint Commission Meeting with EAM Dr S Jaishankar
New Delhi and Santiago reviewed the progress in their ongoing bilateral engagements during Chilean Foreign Minister Alberto van Klaveren’s five-day official visit to India.
Visiting India from August 27 to 31 at the invitation of External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar (EAM), Foreign Minister van Klaveren co-chaired, along with the EAM, the 2nd India-Chile Joint Commission Meeting (JCM) on August 28, the Ministry of External Affairs said in a statement released on Saturday.
During the JCM, the Ministers reviewed bilateral relations and held wide-ranging discussions for strengthening cooperation in trade and investment, agriculture, critical minerals, digital public infrastructures, defence, railways, health & pharmaceuticals, science and technology, Antarctica and space, and people to people ties.
The two Ministers also exchanged views on regional and global issues of mutual interest and reiterated commitment to closer cooperation in multilateral fora.
The Chilean Foreign Minister also met Piyush Goyal, Minister of Commerce and Industry (CIM) and inaugurated the Chile-India Business (Agriculture) Summit.
During the meeting between Commerce and Industries Minister Piyush Goyal and visiting FM, the ministers discussed a way-forward for deepening and diversifying bilateral trade and economic relations.
FM van Klaveren also delivered a lecture on Chile’s foreign policy to a gathering of diplomats, faculty and students, at the School of International studies, JNU.
During his visit to Mumbai on August 29 and 30, FM van Klaveren visited Tata Consultancy Services and Agricultural Produce Market Committee (APMC) Masala market and participated in a Chilean wine-tasting event.
He also spoke at the ‘shooting in Chile’ event that showcased Chile as a potential destination for Indian film productions. The visit of FM van Klaveren provided an opportunity to review the progress in bilateral cooperation and helped in advancing India-Chile ties further.
