Over the years, Lockheed Martin has provided India with a range of advanced defence technologies
The statement came after Lockheed Martin CEO Jim Taiclet's meeting with Prime Minister Modi in New Delhi on Thursday (July 18, 2024). India’s National Security Advisor Ajit Doval was present during the meeting.
The Prime Minister's Office (PMO) posted on social media platform X, formerly Twitter: "CEO of @LockheedMartin, Jim Taiclet met Prime Minister @narendramodi. Lockheed Martin is a key partner in India-US Aerospace and Defence Industrial cooperation. We welcome its commitment towards realising the vision of 'Make in India, Make for the World."
Lockheed Martin shared pictures of the meeting on X and said, "CEO Jim Taiclet joined Hon'ble @narendramodi. As a trusted partner of over three decades, we recognize the promising talent and capabilities of the local industry and remain committed to strengthening the defence and industrial ties between our two nations."
Over the years, Lockheed Martin has provided India with a range of advanced defence technologies to enhance the country's military capabilities in areas such as aerospace, naval systems, missile defence, and strategic capabilities.
One example is the 12 C-130Js, or the Super Hercules, which the Indian Air Force operates for its tactical airlift missions after a deal with the United States. Lockheed Martin has set up a joint venture with Tata Advanced Systems Limited for manufacturing the C-130 J empennage in Hyderabad. This is the single, global source of C-130J empennage assemblies included on all new Super Hercules aircraft.
The Tata Lockheed Martin Aerostructures Limited (TLMAL) joint venture has successfully produced and delivered more than 200 empennages since it began operations in 2010, while also increasing the proportion of locally sourced components.
Incidentally, in 2023, the US and India launched INDUS-X and completed a roadmap for US-India Defence Industrial Cooperation to enhance bilateral defence industrial cooperation and innovation.
