Prime Minister Modi highlights consistent and bipartisan support of US Congress in advancing India-US ties
Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with a bipartisan group of United States congressional members on Thursday (June 20, 2024) during their visit to India this week. Former US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi was part of the delegation led by Rep. Michael McCaul, Chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee.
The seven-member delegation described India-US relations as the "most consequential one," the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) said in a statement in New Delhi. The delegation also expressed their strong support for further deepening Comprehensive Strategic Global Partnership in all areas, including trade, new and emerging technology, defence, people to people exchanges, the PMO added.
"Had a very good exchange of views with friends from the US Congress in a delegation led by @RepMcCaul, Chairman of @HouseForeignGOP. Deeply value the strong bipartisan support in advancing India-US Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership," Prime Minister Modi wrote on X.
Prime Minister Modi highlighted the significant role played by the consistent and bipartisan support of the US Congress in advancing India-US ties, which are based on shared democratic values, respect for rule of law and strong people-to-people ties, the PMO said. He reiterated commitment to further strengthen bilateral relations for the global good.
The US delegation, which also included Mariannette Miller, Gregory Meeks, Nicole Malliotakis, Jim McGovern, and Ami Bera, congratulated Prime Minister Modi on his election for a historic third consecutive term.
On Wednesday (June 19, 2024), members of the US delegation met with External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar. In a post X, Jaishankar appreciated the “strong and continued support” for the India-US strategic partnership.

The US lawmakers earlier visited Dharamshala and met with the Dalai Lama.
This visit underscores the strategic importance of the India-US relationship and highlights the bipartisan support in the United States for strengthening ties with India. The discussions during the visit indicate a shared commitment to addressing regional security challenges and promoting democratic values.
