Prime Minister Modi & King of Bhutan express deep satisfaction at close and unique India-Bhutan friendship
Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with King of Bhutan Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck in Thimphu on Friday (March 22, 2024) and discussed ways to further strengthen the transformative partnership between the two nations.
 
“Glad to have met his Majesty the King of Bhutan, Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck. We talked about ways to improve bilateral relations between our nations”, Prime Minister Modi said on social media platform X.
 
According to information shared by India’s Ministry of External Affairs, Prime Minister Modi and the King of Bhutan expressed deep satisfaction at the close and unique India-Bhutan friendship. “Prime Minister conveyed his appreciation for the guiding vision provided by the successive Druk Gyalpos in shaping close ties of friendship and cooperation between the two countries,” the MEA said.
 
The meeting provided an opportunity to review the entire gamut of bilateral cooperation between India and Bhutan. Recalling that Bharat for Bhutan and Bhutan for Bharat was an abiding reality, the two leaders discussed ways to further the transformative partnership.
 
“They explored initiatives to expand bilateral collaboration in the fields of energy, development cooperation, youth, education, entrepreneurship and skill development. The two leaders also discussed progress in connectivity and investment proposals including in the context of the Gelephu Mindfulness City project,” the MEA said.
 
The Indian Prime Minister thanked the King of Bhutan for the exceptional public welcome accorded to him, with people greeting him all along the journey from Paro airport to Thimphu.
 
Prime Minister Modi also received an audience with His Majesty, The Fourth King of Bhutan, Jigme Singye Wangchuck, who extended a warm welcome on his visit to Bhutan. Prime Minister Modi thanked him for his leadership, vision and contributions to the strengthening of India- Bhutan relations.
 
Both leaders held discussions on wide-ranging issues related to the India Bhutan ties of friendship and cooperation as well as on regional issues of mutual interest, the MEA said.
 
 
Prime Minister Modi earlier met Bhutan Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay for a review of the complete range of India-Bhutan friendship. They agreed to boost the India-Bhutan developmental partnership as well as deepen cultural linkages.
