This is the first visit of Nepal Foreign Secretary Lamsal to India since she assumed charge
Foreign Secretary Vinay Kwatra on Wednesday met his counterpart from Nepal, Sewa Lamsal in New Delhi and discussed the entire range of multifaceted cooperation between New Delhi and Kathmandu, Ministry of External Affairs said in a statement.
The two sides during the meeting also followed up on the 7th India-Nepal Joint Commission Meeting which was co-chaired by External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and Foreign Minister of Nepal N P Saud in Kathmandu last month, the MEA said.
Foreign Secretary Lamsal is on a visit to India to participate in the 8th Asia Economic Dialogue 2024 being jointly convened by the Ministry of External Affairs and Pune International Centre on February 29, 2024 in Pune.
Focussed on the theme “Geo-Economic Challenges in an Era of Flux” Asia Economic Dialogue 2024 will have the participation of a large number of speakers from different parts of the world.
This is the first visit of Foreign Secretary Lamsal to India since she assumed charge. On Tuesday, EAM Jaishankar received Nepal’s Foreign Secretary Lamsal and expressed his happiness over progress in bilateral relations between the two countries.
Sharing a post on social media X, Jaishankar stated: “Happy to receive Foreign Secretary @sewa_lamsal of Nepal today in Delhi. Pleased to hear from her about progress in various aspects of our bilateral relations.”
The visit is in keeping with the tradition of regular high-level exchanges between the two countries and the priority India attaches to its relations with Nepal under its ‘Neighbourhood First’ policy, and provides an opportunity to further advance our bilateral ties.
India and Nepal share unique ties of friendship and cooperation characterised by an open border and deep-rooted people-to-people contacts of kinship and culture.
Earlier Nepal’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Narayan Prakash Saud, arrived in New Delhi to participate in the Raisina Dialogue 2024, held from February 21-24.
The 1950 India-Nepal Treaty of Peace of Friendship of 1950 forms the bedrock of the special relations that exist between the two countries, according to the MEA.
