Foreign Secretary Kwatra landed in Tokyo on Wednesday on a two-day (February 7-8) official visit to Japan
Foreign Secretary Vinay Mohan Kwatra who is on a two-day visit to Tokyo on Thursday held talks with Japan’s Senior Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs Takehiro Funakoshi and “exchanged views on regional situation and India-Japan cooperation in the shared Indo-Pacific region and other issues of common interests,” Tokyo-based Indian embassy said in its post on X on Thursday.
 
During the visit, the Foreign Secretary also held Foreign Office Consultations with Takehiro Funakoshi who is also Japan’s Quad Sherpa, the Ministry of External Affairs said.
 
Earlier, Foreign Secretary Kwatra held bilateral consultations with Masataka Okano, Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan and reviewed the entire gamut of areas in India-Japan Special Strategic and Global Partnership, including political relations, defence and security, trade, investment, technologies, and people-to-people ties.
 
Both sides agreed to expand both scope and depth of relations. They also discussed global issues of shared interest.
 
“Foreign Secretary Kwatra and Japan’s Vice Foreign Minister Masataka Okano held a comprehensive Dialogue on the entire gamut of bilateral relations, taking stock of 10 years of Special Strategic and global partnership and discussing global issues of mutual interest and concern,” Indian embassy said on X.
 
During the visit, Foreign Secretary also met with other senior functionaries of the Government of Japan, including from the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, the Ministry of Defence, and interacted with Japanese policymakers, thought-leaders, and corporate executives in a range of fields.
 
The visit helped prepare the ground for high-level bilateral exchanges and contributed to further strengthening the ties of friendship and cooperation between India and Japan.
