NCGG achieves the milestone of training 1000 civil servants of Maldives since 2019
The National Centre for Good Governance (NCGG), India's premier institution for governance and public policy, has launched the 32nd Capacity Building Programme for the Senior Civil Servants of Maldives. This event, being held at NCGG's campus in Mussoorie, Uttarakhand, is a cooperative exemplification between India and the Maldives, particularly in the realm of civil service and governance.

The week-long programme, running from February 5 to February 9, 2024, has brought together 40 senior educationists from the Maldives.

This programme marks an impressive milestone for the institution, achieving its goal of training 1,000 Maldivian civil servants since the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the NCGG and the Civil Services Commission of Maldives in 2019.

The curriculum is designed to enhance their skills in various critical areas, including India-Maldives relations, Fintech and Inclusion, Public Policy and Implementation, and Ethics in Administration. Additionally, it covers advanced topics such as Leveraging Technology in Disaster Management, Climate Change and its Impact on Biodiversity, and Digital Health in India.

Participants will also engage in sessions focused on Behavioural Change Management, Agro-Based Practices in Coastal Regions, Leadership, Coordination and Communication Skills, and E-Governance and Digital India. The program aims to equip the Maldivian civil servants with the knowledge and tools necessary to address contemporary challenges and achieve Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030.

A key highlight of the programme is the inclusion of field visits to the Smart City Project and Information Technology Development Agency (ITDA) in Dehradun, as well as a visit to a Smart School in Dehradun. These visits are intended to provide practical insights into India's initiatives in leveraging technology for governance and development.

Over the past five years, the capacity building programmes have welcomed a diverse group of participants, including Permanent Secretaries, Secretary Generals, and Deputy Permanent Secretaries, enhancing the administrative capabilities of the Maldives' civil service.

The collaboration between the NCGG and the Civil Services Commission of Maldives reflects the strong bilateral relations between India and the Maldives, with a focus on mutual growth and development.

The 32nd Capacity Building Programme is particularly aimed at the education sector, highlighting the importance of developing skilled and knowledgeable educationists to lead the Maldives' educational reforms and initiatives. By focusing on critical areas such as digital governance, ethical administration, and sustainable development, the programme aims to contribute significantly to the Maldives' journey towards modernization and prosperity.

The initiative has been acknowledged for its role in fostering close ties between India and the Maldives, serving as a model for international cooperation in governance and public administration. With its progression, it promises to further the exchange of ideas and best practices between the two nations, paving the way for future collaborations in other sectors.
