India and Nepal have a robust and multi-faceted bilateral partnership
External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and Nepal's Foreign Minister Narayan Prakash Saud have expressed their commitment to collaborating closely in order to effectively implement the agenda of cooperation outlined by their respective leaderships.
Meeting in Bangkok on Monday (July 17, 2023), they engaged in a productive exchange of ideas and opinions regarding various regional issues of mutual concern.
EAM Jaishankar, who was in the capital of Thailand to participate in the BIMSTEC Foreign Ministers' Retreat, tweeted, "Good meeting with Nepal Foreign Minister Narayan Prakash Saud. Agreed to work closely to implement the agenda of cooperation set out by our leaderships. Look forward to remaining in touch".
"Had a fruitful meeting with the External Affairs Minister of India HE S Jaishankar @DrSJaishankar on the sidelines of BIMSTEC Ministerial Retreat in Bangkok today; exchanged views on matters related to bilateral cooperation and our rich, multifaceted relationship," Nepali Foreign Minister Saud tweeted.
The two had earlier met in Dhaka in May this year and discussed the growing India-Nepal partnership, particularly in areas like energy and connectivity.
India and Nepal have a robust and multi-faceted bilateral partnership. India's assistance to Nepal covers a wide range of sectors, including infrastructure, education, health, agriculture, and capacity building. This reflects the close relationship between the two countries, which is based on a shared cultural heritage and people-to-people ties.
According to information provided by the Indian Embassy in Nepal, since 2003, India has undertaken more than 535 High Impact Community Development Projects in Nepal, of which 478 have been completed.
While in Bangkok, EAM Jaishankar also held a meeting with Bangladesh Foreign Minister Abdul Momen. He later called on Thai Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha, where he conveyed warm greetings from Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The meetings were held to promote constructive dialogue attending specifically to India’s key regional counterparts.
