The visit is expected to pave the way for innovative collaborations and mutual progress in defence and security
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh will embark on an official visit to Malaysia on July 10-11, 2023, with the purpose of strengthening bilateral defence cooperation and enhancing the strategic partnership between the two nations.
This visit builds upon a video conference held on June 27, 2022, between Singh and Malaysia's Senior Defence Minister, YB Dato 'Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein, during which they discussed various matters related to bilateral, regional, and defence industrial cooperation. Both ministers had expressed their commitment to further strengthen the already robust India-Malaysia Defence Cooperation and enhance the existing Malaysia India Defence Cooperation Meeting (MIDCOM) framework.
During their interaction, Defence Minister Singh highlighted the areas in which Indian Defence industries could assist Malaysia. He suggested a visit of senior officers from Malaysia to India to get first-hand experience of the facilities and products of the Indian Defence industry.
Aside from meeting his counterpart, Defence Minister Singh will also call on Malaysia's Prime Minister, Mr. YB Dato’ Seri Anwar bin Ibrahim.
Both nations share a firm commitment to advancing the vision of the Enhanced Strategic Partnership, which was established during the visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Malaysia in 2015. This visionary framework served as a catalyst, propelling India and Malaysia towards a deeper collaboration and shared progress through concerted efforts.
India-Malaysia defence cooperation has grown steadily over the years. The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Defence Cooperation signed in 1993 laid the foundation for defence cooperation between the two countries. By recognizing the importance of a strong defence and security foundation, both countries not only actively seek to strengthen their partnership in these areas, but also manifest a sense of trust and cooperation.
