Continuing the strategic dialogue between the two sides, Emmanuel Bonne, Diplomatic Advisor to French President Emmanuel Macron held in-depth talks with India's National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval in New Delhi on Thursday (July 6, 2023).
The discussions focused mainly on preparations for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to France next week.
“E. Bonne, Diplomatic Advisor to Prez @EmmanuelMacron, held in-depth talks with NSA Ajit Doval to prepare for PM @NarendraModi’s visit to France next week," the French Embassy in India tweeted.
Prime Minister Modi, who is visiting at the invitation of President Macron, will be the Guest of Honour on France’s National Day on July 14. The visit is special, as this will be the first Bastille Day visit with a foreign leader in President Macron’s current term. An Indian marching contingent will take part in the celebrations while Indian Rafales will participate in the fly past.
Significantly, Prime Minister Modi's visit will coincide with the 25th anniversary of the Strategic Partnership between France and India. France is a key partner of India in defense, space and nuclear technology.
Announcing the visit last month, India’s Ministry of External Affairs had said that it is expected to herald the next phase in the India-France Strategic Partnership by setting new and ambitious goals for strategic, cultural, scientific, academic, economic cooperation, including in a wide range of industries.
This historic visit will also deliver common initiatives in order to respond to the key challenges of our time, including climate change, biodiversity loss and the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals and will be an opportunity for India and France to reaffirm their commitment to multilateralism, including in the context of India’s G20 Presidency, the MEA added.
India and France have a shared vision on peace and security, especially in Europe and the Indo-Pacific. They also stand on common ground when it comes to upholding the objectives and the principles of the Charter of the United Nations, which are also the basis of cooperation between the two nations in the Indo-Pacific region.
