NSA Sullivan's visit comes in the run up to Prime Minister Modi's state visit to the US
US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan, called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi on Tuesday (June 13, 2023) and briefed him on the progress in various sectors of bilateral cooperation, the Prime Minister'sOffice (PMO) said.
During the meeting, which comes in the run up to Prime Minister Modi's state visit to the US, he conveyed that the US President Biden looked forward to welcoming him
"Glad to receive US National Security Advisor @JakeSullivan46. Reviewed progress under India-US Initiative on Critical & Emerging Technologies (iCET) and other issues of bilateral cooperation. Look forward to meeting @POTUS @JoeBiden during my upcoming State Visit to the US," Prime Minister Modi tweeted.
According to the PMO, Prime Minister Modi expressed satisfaction at the growing and deepening Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership between India and the US. He said that he looked forward to a productive visit and an engaging conversation with President Biden on bilateral, regional and global issues of mutual interest.
The visiting US NSA also met his Indian counterpart Ajit Doval for what was described by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) as a "restricted discussions on regional and global issues of mutual interest'.
According to the MEA, the two NSAs have engaged regularly in extensive discussions on a broad bilateral, regional and global agenda. "The current visit, which comes in the run-up to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's state visit to the US, will give them the opportunity to continue their high-level dialogue, which will include a review of the robust and multi-faceted cooperation between the two countries as well as a survey of the India-US global strategic partnership," the MEA pointed out.
Later in the evening, they attended the second Track 1.5 dialogue on iCET organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII). The first edition of this dialogue had been organised by the US Chamber of Commerce in Washington, D.C. on January 30, 2023. The NSAs addressed the participants at the dialogue, which included leading representatives of academia and industry from both the countries.
The India-US Initiative on Critical and Emerging Technologies (iCET) was launched by Prime Minister Modi and President Joseph Biden on the side lines of the QUAD Summit in Tokyo on May 24, 2022.
According to the MEA, they expressed satisfaction at the progress made under iCET and encouraged stakeholders on both sides to strive for technology value chain partnerships that would lead to co-development and co-production of high technology products and services in both countries.
NSA Sullivan is accompanied by a delegation of senior US government officials and leaders of US industry. He is also scheduled to meet with External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and other dignitaries of the Government of India during his visit.
