It is designed to initiate a holistic conversation on museums with museum professionals
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is all set to inaugurate the International Museum Expo 2023 at New Delhi's Pragati Maidan on May 18, 2023.
The event has been organized as part of Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav and celebrates the 47th International Museum Day (IMD) under the theme 'Museums, Sustainability, and Well-Being.'
"The Museum Expo is designed to initiate a holistic conversation on Museums with museum professionals to enable them to evolve as cultural centres that play a pivotal role in India’s cultural diplomacy," the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) said on Wednesday (May 16, 2023).
During the event, PM Modi will also launch a virtual walkthrough of the future National Museum in the North and South Blocks. The Museum is an extensive endeavor to highlight and promote historical occurrences, figures, concepts, and accomplishments from India's past that have influenced India's present.
Furthermore, the Prime Minister will unveil the graphic novel "A Day at the Museum," the Directory of Indian Museums, the Pocket Map of Kartavya Path, and Museum Cards. Additionally, he will also unveil the mascot of the International Museum Expo.
The graphic novel titled 'A Day at the Museum' portrays children exploring the National Museum and discovering various career opportunities within museums. The Directory of Indian Museums provides a comprehensive survey of museums in India. The Pocket Map of Kartavya Path highlights cultural spaces and institutions, along with tracing the history of iconic pathways.
Lastly, the Museum Cards, consisting of 75 illustrated cards featuring iconic museums across the country, serve as an innovative way to introduce museums to people of all ages, with each card offering brief information about the museums.
Furthermore, the Prime Minister will also unveil the mascot of the International Museum Expo - a contemporized version of the Dancing girl made of wood in the Chennapatnam art style.
The event will also witness the participation of international delegations representing cultural centers and museums from around the world.
