Both sides reviewed their bilateral ties and discussed various issues of mutual concern
India and Egypt discussed various regional and international issues of mutual interest, including climate change, resilient supply chains, and the participation of the Global South under India’s ongoing G20 presidency, during their Foreign Office Consultations (FOC) held in Cairo on Wednesday (May 3, 2023).
Secretary (CPV & OIA) Ausaf Sayeed, and Assistant Foreign Minister for Asian Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Egypt Ayman Kamel served as co-chairs of the 12th round of Foreign Office Consultations.
"During the consultations, both sides undertook a comprehensive review of the entire range of bilateral relations, covering political, trade and commerce, investments, development partnership, capacity building, culture and people-to-people linkages," the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said.
Both sides also discussed ways to further strengthen ties between India and Egypt and enhance cooperation in multilateral forums. They exchanged views on regional and global issues of mutual interest including climate change, resilient supply chains and participation of Global South under India's G20 Presidency, the MEA said.
They agreed that the next round of foreign office consultations would be held in New Delhi at a mutually convenient date.
While visiting Egypt, Secretary (CPV and OIA) Sayeed met bilaterally with Ambassador Hamdi Loza, Deputy Foreign Minister for African Affairs. During the meeting, they discussed various facets of India-Egypt's bilateral ties. Subsequently, he also had a meeting with Ambassador Khaled El Manzalawi, Assistant Secretary General, League of Arab States, during which they discussed ways to enhance cooperation between India and countries of the Arab world.
Later, the Secretary (CPV and OIA) attended the cultural event organized by the Indian Mission in Egypt, during which he had a chance to interact with members of the Indian community who are currently residing in Egypt.
