Wong will discuss contemporary challenges, including strengthening the multilateral system
Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong is set to visit India this week to attend the G20 Foreign Ministers meeting, which is being held in New Delhi on February 1-2. This will be Wong's first visit to India as Foreign Minister, and it is being seen as a show of support for India's G20 Presidency.
During her visit, Wong will work with her counterparts on addressing contemporary international challenges, including strengthening the multilateral system, food and energy security, and humanitarian assistance and disaster relief.
She will also attend the 2023 Raisina Dialogue, India's premier forum for addressing the most challenging issues facing the regional and global community.
In an official statement on Monday announcing the visit, Australia welcomed India's ambitious and action-oriented G20 agenda, which is focused on the theme 'One Earth, One Family, One Future'.
The statement added that this year is an important milestone in the bilateral relationship between Australia and India, with many high-level Ministerial visits planned between the two countries.
In addition to her visit to India, Penny Wong will also visit Malaysia. While there, she will hold several introductory meetings with members of the newly-formed Malaysian Government, including the Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs, and Minister of Economy.
In light of Australia's commitment to collaborating with Malaysia to support ASEAN's crucial contribution to regional peace and security, it is reported that the meetings will be centered on strengthening Australia and Malaysia's significant trade and economic links, cooperation on defense and regional security, and the close ties between their peoples.
