Guyanese President Mohamed Irfaan Ali is on an official visit to India from January 8–14
India and Guyana discussed deepening of ties in key sectors like health, technology, and infrastructure during talks between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Guyanese President Mohamed Irfaan Ali.
The two leaders met on the sidelines of the 17th Pravasi Bhartiya Divas (PBD) in Indore, Madhya Pradesh on Monday.
PM Modi took to Twitter and wrote, "Glad to have met President @DrMohamedIrfaa1 in Indore earlier today. We talked about deepening ties in key sectors like health, technology, infrastructure and more."
President Irfaan Ali is on an official visit to India from January 8–14, 2023 during which he also participated in the 17th edition of PBD as the chief guest.
The two leaders held comprehensive discussions on a wide range of issues including cooperation in energy, infrastructure development, pharmaceuticals, healthcare, technology and innovation, and defence cooperation, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said.
They also recalled the 180 year old historical bonds of friendship between the people of India and Guyana and agreed to deepen them further.
Earlier, in his speech at the PBD Convention, President Irfaan Ali lauded India’s role in combating Covid-19 on a global scale. He also recalled his days in India and claimed that Guyana is now welcoming the integration of the Indian diaspora.
On Tuesday, President Irfaan Ali will meet with President Droupadi Murmu for bilateral talks and attend the Valedictory Session and Pravasi Bharatiya Samman Award Ceremony. He will also participate in the Global Investors Summit 2023 in Indore the next day.
Apart from Indore, President Ali will also visit Delhi, Kanpur, Bangalore and Mumbai.
