PM Modi also discussed Mission LiFE and the Commonwealth of Nations with King Charles
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday spoke with King Charles III of the United Kingdom and the two discussed several issues, including India’s priorities for its G20 presidency.
A number of subjects of mutual interest were discussed during the call, including Climate Action, conservation of biodiversity, and innovative solutions for financing energy-transition, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said.
"Prime Minister expressed his appreciation for His Majesty’s abiding interest and advocacy on these issues," the MEA added.
According to the MEA, Prime Minister Modi also conveyed his best wishes to the King for a very successful reign, as this was his first conversation with King Charles after he assumed the Office of the Sovereign of the UK.
"Prime Minister briefed His Majesty on India’s priorities for its G20 Presidency, including propagation of digital public goods," the MEA said.
India officially took over the G20 Presidency in December 1, 2022. During its tenure, India also aims to promote its development, scientific achievements, culture, and tourism.
During Tuesday's call, the leaders exchanged views on the Commonwealth of Nations and how to further strengthen its functioning. They also appreciated the role of the Indian community in the UK in acting as a "living bridge” between both countries and enriching bilateral relations, the MEA said.
PM Modi also discussed the significance of Mission LiFE, or Lifestyle for the Environment, which is an initiative by India to encourage environmentally sustainable living.
The five-year program was unveiled by the Prime Minister during COP26 in Glasgow in November 2021. It is intended to be an India-led worldwide mass movement that would encourage both individual and group action to conserve and preserve the environment.
