During the event, the Indian Navy gave a demonstration of its operational capabilities
The Western Naval Command gave a demonstration of its operational capabilities during a 'Day at Sea' event organized for MPs, MLAs, MLCs, and government officials of Maharashtra off the coast of Mumbai on Thursday.
This was in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of creating greater sea consciousness amongst all sections of the society, especially in coastal states, the Ministry of Defence said.
INS Chennai, INS Visakhapatnam, and INS Teg, Western Fleet's front-line vessels, welcomed 125 visitors and officials, including 25 MLAs and a Minister. The event gave them a unique opportunity to see daily naval activities and ship life in the Indian Navy.
The day's activities included drills, including a simulated attack by Fast Attack Craft, an air power display, search and rescue missions by Chetak helicopters, a sonar dunk mission by a Sea King helicopter, underway replenishment, and personnel transfers at sea.
A submarine demonstration was also carried out to provide the dignitaries with a comprehensive look at naval activities at sea.
Among those who boarded the ships were Minister Chandrakant Dada Patil and Speaker of the Legislative Assembly Rahul Narwekar. All visiting dignitaries interacted with senior command personnel, who gave them an outline of the activities the Indian Navy is engaged in with a focus on the risks and difficulties the country faces in the maritime sector.
According to the Ministry of Defense, the 'Day at Sea' was organised to provide lawmakers and other government representatives with an awareness of the essential role the Navy plays in maintaining national security and developing the nation, as well as to introduce them to the hardships and difficulties of life at sea.
