The step shows India's continued support for fostering the growth of people-to-people ties with Nepal
In a ceremony held on Tuesday, India's Ambassador to Nepal Naveen Srivastava handed over 200 vehicles to Nepal's Finance Minister Janardan Sharma as a gift from India for providing logistical help to a number of Nepali institutions for election-related activities.
Taking to Twitter, the official Twitter account of the Indian Embassy in Nepal tweeted,
"On behalf of Govt of India, Amb Mr. Naveen Srivastava handed over 200 vehicles to Nepal Finance Minister @JSPrabhakar, as a gift of India for logistical support to various institutions of Nepal for conduct of elections. @MEAIndia #IndiaNepalFriendship @SherBDeuba @MofaNepal @moha_nepal"
As per the Indian Embassy’s official press release, these vehicles are being given to the government of Nepal at their request for use in the upcoming elections. Out of 200, 120 vehicles will be used by the security forces and 80 vehicles by the Nepali Election Commission.
The press release also added that these vehicles will be helpful in enhancing the logistical plans made by various Nepali institutions around the nation to conduct the elections.
Sharma praised the Indian government and people for their ongoing support of Nepal's development partnership, including the donation of these vehicles.
The official press release from the embassy further stated that the Government of India has previously provided help in the shape of vehicles at the request of the Government of Nepal for use by both the Election Commission and the security forces of Nepal.
More than 2400 cars have been sent to several Nepali organisations as of this point for use in the support of elections, including around 2000 vehicles for the Nepal Police and Armed Police Forces and about 400 vehicles for the Nepali Army and Election Commission, it added.
The press release mentioned the close ties between the peoples of India and Nepal, which are reflected in their multifaceted and multisectoral development partnership.
It went on to say that the extension of these logistical supports demonstrates the Indian government's continued support for fostering the growth of people-to-people ties.
