The trials were conducted to operationalize a bilateral agreement for the transportation of commodities
The fourth and last trial run to operationalize a bilateral agreement for the transportation of commodities to and from India via the Bangladeshi ports of Chattogram and Mongla was successfully completed on Wednesday.
Taking to Twitter, the official account of the Indian High Commission in Bangladesh wrote, "4th & final trial run for operationalizing bilateral agreement for transit of goods to & from India via Chattogram & Mongla Ports completed! Vessel carrying Indian transit container departed from Chattogram Port today. AHC @ahcichittagong was present on the occasion."
The final trial was conducted by Tata Steel and CJ Darcl Logistics Ltd. on the Dawki-Tamabil-Chattogram route, which is one of the eight authorised routes for the transportation of goods under the Agreement signed between India and Bangladesh in 2018. This route is on the border with the Indian state of Meghalaya.
In a subsequent tweet, the Indian High Commission said that this completes all four trial runs on all allowed routes as per the 2018 agreement.
"This trial run marks the completion of all 04 trial runs on all approved routes under this Agreement. Trial runs on the routes Mongla–Tamabil–Dawki, Mongla–Bibirbazar–Srimantapur and Chattogram–Sheola–Sutarkandi were completed earlier," the High Commission wrote.
The High Commission concluded the string of tweets by writing that this was a step toward fulfilling the pledge reaffirmed at the level of the two Prime Ministers during the visit of Bangladesh's honorable prime minister to India in September 2022.
