He will join PM Narendra Modi in the launch of Mission LiFE brochure, logo, and slogan
United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres will be in India on an official visit from October 18 to October 20, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) announced on Monday.
According to the MEA, this will be the UNSG's first trip to India since he began serving in that role for a second term in January 2022. In his first term, he had previously been to India from October 1 to October 4, 2018.
The UN Secretary-General will begin his visit to India by paying tribute to the victims of the 26/11 terrorist attacks at the Taj Mahal Palace Hotel in Mumbai. Later, he will also give a public speech, titled "India @75: UN-India Partnership: Strengthening South-South Cooperation," at IIT Mumbai.
Later, on October 20, UNSG Guterres will accompany Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the launching of the Mission LiFE (Lifestyle for Environment) brochure, logo, and slogan in Gujarat's Ekta Nagar, Kevadiya.
He is also scheduled to present flowers to the Statue of Unity in Kevadiya. Additionally, he will visit other local development initiatives as well as Modhera, Gujarat's first solar-powered village. Before leaving for his next stop, the UNSG will also visit the Sun Temple in Modhera.
During the visit, UNSG Antonio Guterres and India's External Affairs Minister (EAM) S Jaishankar will also have one-on-one conversations about global challenges, initiatives to strengthen India's involvement with the UN, especially through India's future G20 presidency, and reformed multilateralism.
