India and New Zealand share warm, cordial and friendly relations

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Friday held a virtual meeting with his New Zealand counterpart Nanaia Mahuta and discussed issues related to Climate Change, Indo-Pacific, Commonwealth and Covid-19.

Using his twitter handle, Jaishankar tweeted: “A warm and productive virtual meeting with FM Nanaina Mahuta of New Zealand. Exchanges covered covid response, climate change, Indo-Pacific and Commonwealth.”

On May 25, the two countries had held their third Foreign Office Consultations in a virtual format and comprehensively reviewed their ongoing bilateral cooperation.

During this meeting both sides had discussed the steps to be taken to enhance the depth and momentum of engagement in different areas including defence and security, trade and investment, space, counterterrorism, cyber security, disarmament and climate change, and for strengthening people-to-people ties.

Both sides exchanged views on various regional issues. They reiterated the importance of closer cooperation for a rules-based international order and a free, open and inclusive Indo-Pacific region.

They also discussed ways to strengthen coordination in multilateral and regional fora.
