Qatar and Egypt share warm bilateral relations with India

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday held telephonic talks separately with Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al-Thani and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi and conveyed them Eid-ul-Fitr greetings.

As per the statement issued by the Ministry of External Affairs, the Prime Minister warmly appreciated the personal care taken by the Amir for ensuring the welfare of Indian citizens in Qatar during the Covid-19 pandemic. In turn, Qatar Emir appreciated the contributions of Indian community, especially the role played by Indian health workers in the Gulf country.

During the talks with the Emir of Qatar, Prime Minister Modi highlighted the attention being paid by Indian authorities to avoid any disruption in the supply of essential goods from India to Qatar during the present situation.

The Prime Minister, as per MEA statement, conveyed his warm greetings for the forthcoming 40th birthday of the Amir, and expressed best wishes for his continued good health and success.

Similarly in his talks with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi, Prime Minister Modi appreciated the support extended by the country’s authorities for the safety and welfare of Indian nationals during the Covid-19 crisis.

As per the MEA, the Egyptian President referred to Egypt and India as being among the oldest civilizations in the world, and expressed happiness about the fast expanding bilateral relationship.

Prime Minister Modi had earlier planned to visit Egypt this year, but it had to be postponed due to the Covid-19 pandemic. But the Prime Minister conveyed his desire to meet the Egyptian President as soon as circumstances permitted.
